Speaking on the occasion, Mr Soomro said the centre would provide facilities to cardiac patients of the interior of Sindh who had to travel to Karachi for treatment.
He said the establishment of the centre could not have been possible without the services of the Isra Islamic Foundation (IIF) and the university and hospital administration.
The Sindh governor said it was beyond the resources of the government to set up such advance centres and urged philanthropic organizations to come forward and fill the vacuum.
He said technological advancement in the field of medical sciences was the need of the hour and hailed the services of the IIF in this regard.
Referring to the demand of the IIF president about the construction of a dual carriage road and a link road to facilitate patients, the Sindh governor said the district government was already considering the matter.
In his welcome speech, the president and chief executive of the IIF, Prof Ghulam Qadir Kazi said Rs30 million had been spent on the cardiology centre.
Later, while answering newsmen’s questions, the Sindh governor said in a light mood that he would not disappoint journalists about the news of his resignation.
When he was told that his governorship would always be remembered because the construction of the greater Thal canal was approved during his regime and acute shortage of water had also occurred, Mr Soomro said the Thal canal project was included in the 1991 Water Accord and added that it should also be remembered that the Kalabagh dam was shelved and the study for Bhasha dam was carried out during his governorship. He said the shortage of water was due to natural causes.
He maintained that Sindh had received extra water during his regime and crop production had also increased.
