LAHORE, Aug 8: Governor Khalid Maqbool said on Thursday that no public school or college would be denationalized in the Punjab.

He made the announcement during a meeting with a 22-member delegation of teachers which called on him under Professors Association President and Joint Action Committee Chairman Prof Nazim Hasnain here at the Governor’s House on Thursday night.

The governor constituted a committee to make recommendations for the constitution of board of governors for major educational institutions while giving weight to the opinion of teachers’ representatives.

Headed by the provincial education secretary, the committee will have representation from the teacher’s joint action committee. It would submit its recommendations in a week and the boards would comprise philanthropists from the private sector.

The governor regretted the recent baton charge of women teachers at the Islamia College Cooper Road and ordered an investigation into the incident within three days, promising stern action against those found responsible for the torture of teachers.

The governor took a serious notice of the fact, narrated by a retired teacher, that property of some educational institutions denationalized last year was being sold out illegally. He said those indulging in the malpractice would be dealt with sternly.
