BADIN, Aug 8: On the call of the Badin Councillors’ Ittehad, more than 60 councillors of different councils took out a rally against the district, taluka and union council Nazims for ignoring them regarding allocation of development works.

Led by Azhar Abbasi, chairman of the Ittehad, the protesters gathered outside the Aiwan-i-Sahafat here on Thursday and marched on the city roads. Later, they observed a token hunger strike at Shahnawaz Chowk.

They were demanding investigation into the development schemes awarded by the Nazims to their favourite persons without the consent of the councillors of the areas.

They accused the Nazims of ignoring the councillors in the development schemes in their areas and alleged that inferior materials were used in the schemes.

They said that councillors were the representatives of the people therefore they should not to be kept away from the development works.

They warned the Nazims that if their 12-point charter of demands was not accepted immediately, they would launch a campaign against the Nazims.

Their demands included provision of offices and transport facilities for the women councillors in each union council, grant of allowance for the councillors and award of development schemes to the members of the district, taluka and union councils on equal basis.
