GUJRANWALA, Aug 4: At least five people were killed while a dozen others, including four policemen, sustained injuries in road accidents in and around the city here on Sunday.
A speeding Rawalpindi-bound bus in its bid to overtake a police van hit it from the behind near Wazirabad. As a result, bus passenger Ikram died instantly while SI Riaz Ahmad and constables Nadim, Afzal and Shaukat received injuries. They were rushed to the local DHQ Hospital from where Ahmad was shifted to Mayo Hospital, Lahore, for his serious condition.
A wagon was going to Ahmad Nagar when it collided head-on with a stationary tractor-trolley parked along the road. Mushtaq Ahmad died instantly while three master students — Rabia, Sadia and Adeela — sustained injuries. They were admitted to the THQ Hospital in critical condition.
A cyclist, Imran, died on the spot while his brother Irfan wounded when a bus hit them on the GT Road near Kamoke.
A passenger of pick-up, Irshad Ahmad, was killed while half a dozen passengers injured when it overturned while saving a passer-by on the Sialkot Road. A man, Munir Hussain, was knocked down and killed by a speeding truck on the GT Road near Shaheenabad. He was crossing the road.
KILLS FATHER: A man shot dead his father on Sunday over a land dispute in Bath village, Naushera Virkan.
Muhammad Abbas was asleep at his outhouse when Muhammad Asif came there and opened fire on him and escaped. He died on the spot.
Naushera Virkan police have registered a case and are investigating.
