JUP leaders elected unopposed

LAHORE, Aug 3: All the candidates, including Sahibzada Fazle Karim, contesting elections to various seats of the central and Punjab Markazi Jamiat Ulema-i-Pakistan were elected unopposed here on Saturday.

Sahibzada Fazle Karim was elected the party president in the elections which were supervised by a three-member election commission at the Jamia Naeemia.

Other central office-bearers of the party are:

Senior vice-president: Maulana Muhammad Sharif Rizvi; vice-presidents: Maulana Ghulam Nabi Fakhri, Sahibzada Dr Fazeel Ayaz and Sardar Jahangir Khan; secretary-general: Chaudhry Muhammad Husain; finance secretary: Maulana Abdul Karim.

The following are the Punjab office-bearers of the party:

PRESIDENT: Sahibzada Sultan Riazul Hasan Qadri; vice-president: Maulana Syed Shabbir Husain; general-secretary: Sahibzada Ghulam Murtaza; joint secretary: Shafi Rizvi; finance secretary: Sahibzada Sultan Qamar Amir Afzal.

The election commission comprised Dr Sarfraz Naeemi, Pir Syed Azmat Ali Shah and Maulana Muhammad Tufail Rizvi.

Meanwhile, speaking at a news conference, Fazle Karim said protection of the Nizam-i-Mustafa and its implementation was the top priority of his party. It was a political party and considered restoration of democracy a guarantee to the solidarity of the country.

He said the government should not touch the constitution. It must allow the next parliament to make amendments if it deemed necessary to do so.

He said the Kashmir dispute should be resolved in accordance with the UN resolutions.

He said his party was attached to the PML(N) in the past and would continue to do so also in future.
