HYDERABAD, Aug 1: A large number of students of the Mehran University of Engineering and Technology, Jamshoro, staged a protest march in the university premises on Wednesday to protest against the increase in the timings of the university, supply of substandard food in the university canteen, shortage of transport and hostel and other problems confronting them.

The protesters, under the banner of the Jeay Sindh Students Federation, staged the march after the classes and at its end staged a sit-in outside the administration block where the office of the vice chancellor is located.

Speaking at the rally, the JSSF leaders, Asif Magsi, Javed Daudpoto, Asif Memon, Badaruddin Junejo and Farman Areesar, said that the timings of the university had unnecessarily been increased from 9am to 5pm, which was affecting the efficiency of the students.

They said that the students had to get up at 6am to reach the university and returned home after sunset, which totally exhausted them.

The JSSF leaders said that the increase in timing might have benefited the vested interests but it was extremely harmful for the students. They said that there was only one canteen for more than 3,000 students, where rotten food was being supplied.
