LAHORE, July 31: School and college teachers on Wednesday observed a ‘condemnation day’ by holding protest meetings and demonstrations in educational institutions in the city to condemn police torture of teachers and policy to denationalize educational institutions.
The teachers also passed resolutions against the police and the government attitude towards solving the issue. They asked the government to remove education minister, education secretary and police officials responsible for allowing batoncharge of teachers.
The teachers also held protest demonstrations in different parts of the city besides women teachers’ protests in front of different newspapers’ offices.
Meanwhile, the Joint Action Committee Teachers Punjab (JACTP) announced that it would hold its seventh protest convention at the Government Islamia College, Civil Lines, on Thursday (today).
The teachers also planned to hold a protest rally from the college to the Punjab Civil Secretariat.
Besides the teachers, the convention would also be participated in by students, lawyers and political and social workers.
JACTP chairman Nazim Hasnain and other leaders said that the teachers would hold a peaceful protest rally. However, if police again tried to torture teachers, they would not be responsible for any untoward incident.
The JACTP also announced that teachers’ organizations would also hold protest meetings and demonstrations in different parts of the province.
