Aitzaz Ahsan If Mr Aitzaz Ahsan accepts an important position in the government, it will only prove what we have known all along any Pakistani politician can be bought. Remember the US state senator who a few years back said that Pakistanis would gladly sell their grandmothers to achieve their aim?

A correction In the op-ed 'Beyond the uncertainty' (Nov 11 ) the author refers to Alexander's army refusing to fight and Asoka reaching a point “when bloodshed turned him away from the battlefield,” and sates that both these incidents are connected to 'northern Pakistan.' Not so. Asoka turned away from the battlefield in Kalinga. But Kalinga was in modern Orissa far away from 'northern Pakistan'

Dangerous bend This is apropos of 'Dangerous road bend' (Aug 28). The bend is situated on Lahore Chunian Road, near Kot Abdul Rehman, Mayo Bhoe Asal, Tehsil Pattoki, Kasur District. Chief Minister Mian Shahbaz Sharif had been requested to do something about it on an urgent basis but in vain. Maybe Speaker Punjab Assembly Rana Iqbal Khan will do something about it as he is from there.

Training journalists The media over recent years has created a lot of jobs and Pakistani youths are now interested in pursuing it as a career. However, many people believe that the focus of the media at present should be on the training of youths who are interested in journalism. Journalism is a major now offered in universities, and training courses have been initiated by several institutes in Pakistan.

Shortage of sugar I have not seen a single bakery or sweet shop closed due to shortage of sugar. Where do they get their sugar from?
