LAHORE, Nov 5: Two Pakistan women swimmers will take part in next year’s Commonwealth Games and Asian Games each for the first time in history, Pakistan Amateur Swimming Federation (PASF) said Monday.

The decision was taken at the general council meeting of the PASF held here Monday.

Briefing the newsmen, PASF secretary, Latif Butt, said the decision to include women swimmers in the Pakistan contingent had been taken considering their performance at recently concluded Muslim Women’s Games in tehran.

In all probability, Pakistan’s top swimmers Kiran Khan and Sana Waheed will represent Pakistan at both the Games.  Pakistan collected 45 medals in Tehran, which included three gold, 14 silver and 28 bronze.

Pakistan Women’s Amateur Swimming Association (PWASA), spokesman, Veena Masood, said Kiran improved four national records, Sana Waheed and Mehrunissa three each while Ayesha Tajwar improved one national mark in Tehran. Pakistan relay team also improved one national record.

Latif said besides sending the Pakistan team for first Prince Faisal swimming, diving and waterpolo championship   from Jan 31 to Feb 5, 2002 in Tehran, fresh trials would be held to select national squad for the SAF Games in Islamabad in March-April.

The PASF decided to increase the transfer fee from a provincial association to department or services from Rs 1000 to Rs5000.

Wapda Sports Board has been allotted the 44th national swimming championship in Lahore in July and August next year.

NWFP Swimming Association will host the 12th national under-15   and under-18 swimming gala in August to be staged in Peshawar.

Following is the domestic calendar of events for the year 2002:

Fifth National Waterpolo Championship at Risalpur Academy in July and August, to be hosted by PAF.

NWFP Swimming Association will host the 12th National Under-15 and Under-18 Championship in Peshawar in August.

Wapda Sports Board will play host to the 44th National Seniors Swimming Championship in Lahore in August September.

Punjab Women’s Swimming Association will organize the 6th National Girls (Age-Group) Swimming Championship in Lahore in October.

Pakistan Navy hosts the 7th National Women’s Swimming Championship in Karachi in October and November.

Balochistan Olympic Association will stage the 29th National Games in Quetta.
