LARKANA, July 25: The Larkana District Council has demanded of the Sindh government to reverse the transfers of the government officials, made without consulting the district Nazim, and warned the provincial local government minister to mend his behaviour.

A session of the district council, presided over by Nazir Ahmed Bughio, unanimously passed a resolution to this effect here on Thursday.

The resolution was moved by the chief whip, Amir Bakhsh Gaad, who termed the transfers a violation of the Sindh Local Government Ordinance 2001.

The speakers, including Shabir Hakro, Aijaz Leghari, Dr Niaz Chandio and Barkat Shaikh, vehemently criticized the irresponsible attitude of Sindh minister for local bodies, Dr Arbab Ghulam Rahim.

They said that the minister was trampling over the norms and crossing the limits of decency and added that he should mind his language.

Gaad alleged that the minister was bent upon destroying the devolution of power plan.

Later the members of the district council staged a protest sin-in inside the house and walked out of the house, demanding withdrawal of the transfers and resign of the minister.

Meanwhile, Larkana District Nazim, Khursheed Juenjo, advised the newly inducted Sindh ministers to refrain from sabotaging the devolution of power system.

Speaking at a farewell reception for the outgoing DPO, Ghulam Nabi Memon, here on Thursday, Junejo alleged that the ministers were out to destroy the local government institutions.

Citing an example, he said that 48 officers of grade 16 to 20 , the highest number of transfers in any district, had been transferred in Larkana without any consultation with the district Nazim.

He said that President Gen Parvez Musharraf wanted to strengthen the local government system but the provincial ministers were weakening and destroying it.

He appreciated the efforts of the outgoing DPO for lowering crime rate and boosting police morale.

Memon lauded coordination between the district Nazim and the DPO.
