SUKKUR, July 23: The nine district Nazims of Sindh have sent a letter to President Pervez Musharraf, in which they requested him for being given time to inform him of the activities of the newly-inducted ministers, who were allegedly failing his policies regarding the devolution system.
Syed Nasir Hussain Shah, District Nazim, Sukkur, informed this correspondent on the telephone on Tuesday.
The Awam Dost Panel of nine Nazims of Sindh alleged that Provincial Minister Muqeem Khoso and Arbab Rahim were unduly interfering in their administration and asked for their removal.
The letter addressed to Gen Tanveer Naqvi of the NRB was moved by the district Nazim, Sukkur.
Mr Nasir said that these ministers were even using bad language against the district Nazim.
All the Naib Nazims have signed the application seeking time for meeting with the president.
The meeting of Nazims was held at the resident of the Nazim, Jacobabad, Shabbir Ali Bejirani, while the Sukkur Nazim was entrusted with the duty of contacting the NRB chairman, Gen Naqvi, and President Musharraf.
Bridge collapseS: The driver of a truck was injured when a bridge on Patni Minor near Rohri, over which the truck was passing, collapsed on Tuesday.
Villagers rescued the truck driver, Paryal, and took him to the Sukkur Civil Hospital in a serious condition.
The passage of villages situated near Patni Minor was blocked after the collapse of the bridge.
Mir Nisar Talpur, the Nazim of the area, who rushed to the site along with villagers, told newsmen that he had written several letters about the poor condition of the bridge to the Sukkur district Nazim, DCO, and the road department but no action had been taken.
He said several other bridges in the area were also in a bad condition and demanded of the DCO and the road department to survey all such bridges and repair the same.
CONVICTED: The Anti-Terrorism Court-III, Sukkur, on Tuesday awarded two times death sentence, 16 years rigorous imprisonment and a fine of Rs650,000 to a convict of a murder case.
The convict will undergo another seven years rigorous imprisonment if he failed to pay the fine.
Mohammad Rasheed and Anwer Ali of an intelligence agency left from Sukkur Barrage for an official duty on a motorcycle on April 15, 2001, and went to a spice factory in the local SITE area.
Two armed men, Gohram and Khatoor, intercepted them when they were returning after meeting the owner of the factory and directed them to hand over the motorcycle.
On their resistance, Gohram opened fire, killing Ali.
Later, the police arrested the accused, Gohram, along with the pistol used in the crime, after an encounter in which his accomplice, Khatoor, was killed.
The fine money will be distributed among the heirs of the deceased, Anwer Ali.
