HYDERABAD, July 23: The Sindh Professors and Lecturers Association (SPLA) has decided to observe a black day in the colleges of the province on Aug 1 against the privatization of educational institutions.

The SPLA, at a joint meeting of its central, regional and district office-bearers held here on Tuesday, however, decided that teachers would wear black arm-bands but perform their curricular and extra curricular duties on the black day.

It also decided that a committee of the SPLA would meet on Aug 6 at the Government Sachal Sarmast College, Hyderabad, to chalk out future course of action.

The meeting condemned the police violence at the teachers’ rally in Lahore against privatization of educational institutions.

It demanded severe action against those police officers who had ordered the attack on the protesting teachers.

The meeting demanded that educational institutions should not be privatized as it would deprive poor students of their right to education.
