KARACHI, July 20: Tremendous increase in the number of children aged between 10 and 16 running away from home has been noticed by the Edhi Information Bureau (EIB), as during the last one-and-a-half month period the Missing Children Section in Karachi alone has received 450 reports.

The sections throughout the country received reports of 150 missing children in Sukkur, 120 in Larkana, 151 in Multan, 210 in Lahore, 112 in Islamabad, 95 in Peshawar and 65 in Quetta, says a press release issued here on Saturday.

The EIB conducted interviews of the runaway children lodged at the Edhi Child Home, Korangi No:5, Karachi revealed that mostly such children belonged to low or moderate-income groups.

They complained of non-receiving of pocket money, unnecessary restrictions, scolding and humiliation by parents which made them to leave their homes.— PPI
