FAISALABAD, July 17: Punjab Governor Khalid Maqbool has said the government is making efforts to restore real democracy in the country.

He was speaking at a meeting at Chandani Chowk late on Tuesday night held in connection with giving proprietary rights to the residents of Ghulam Muhammadabad Colony.

He said the days of confrontation, plunder, chaos and toppling the government for personal ends would never return. He urged the people to elect honest and capable representatives in the polls.

Responding to the problems and demands of the area people, the governor ordered upgradation of the Ghulam Muhammadabad Girls Inter College to degree level. He also directed the TMA to rehabilitate the Kaleem Shaheed Park and provide streetlights in the city under a phased programme.

Earlier, district Nazim Zahid Nazir said the 2,200 residents of the D-Block of Ghulam Muhammadabad Colony had not been given proprietary rights because of red-tapism. The government had solved this outstanding issue.

City Nazim Mumtaz Cheema, Naib Nazim Ilyas Ansari and social worker Iqbal Kastro also spoke at the meeting.
