ISLAMABAD, July 16: Inhabitants of village Siri Saral and Pind Sangrial have decided to stage a protest on the occasion of foundation stone laying ceremony of sector D-12 by the CDA on Wednesday.
The president of action committee of affected villagers, Mohammad Ashraf told Dawn on Tuesday that they would stage a demonstration before the Interior Minister Moinuddin Haider, who would be the chief guest at the function.
“We will display placards with our demands written on them to apprise the minister of our problems”, he added.
He said the villagers, who have not been compensated by the CDA even after acquiring their land had also filed complaints with National Accountability Bureau (NAB) but they are still awaiting justice.
“We will lay down before the bulldozers but not allow the CDA to raze our houses. We will resist forcefully, if the CDA tries to throw us out from our land,” the leader warned.
A senior CDA official held several meetings with the village representatives and heard their demands, a CDA source said.
The CDA officials have rejected the demands made by the villagers and said under the laws they were not entitled to give further compensation. Villagers, who have over 100 kanals of land in Siri Saral are demanding that they should be given farming plots in compensation.
They said since their land was acquired in 1985 under the CDA’s land disposal policy 1984, they were bound to provide 20 kanal agriculture land to the owners in place of 40 kanals acquired land.
Some villagers said they have been given meagre amount in compensation and that the CDA should pay more for acquiring their land.
