HYDERABAD, July 16: The president of the District Coordination Council of NGOs, Kazi Shamsuddin, has said that child labour is a real tragedy and this could only be eliminated by promoting the cause of education which created awareness among the people.

He was speaking at a seminar on Child Labour and its Causes organized by the Human Resource Development and Pakistan Baitul Maal here on Tuesday.

The Nazim of Latifabad taluka, Abdul Jabbar Khan, said in his address that joint efforts should be made to resolve the problem of child labour.

Syed Naeemuddin, founder of the Youth Welfare Society, said that no parent would be so callous to ask his child to earn for the family but he was forced to do so due to price hike and to supplement the family income. The only solution to eliminate child labour, he said, was to eradicate poverty.

The District in-charge of Baitul Maal, Hyderabad, Muhammad Saleem Baloch, and the organizer of the seminar, Ashok Kumar, stressed the need for joint efforts to eliminate child labour and said that the Nazims, councillors and NGOs could prove instrumental in furtherance of this objective.

Abdul Ghaffar Sherani, Sabra Sultana, Gul Naz Shaikh, Ali Bux Pathan, Haseena Ramzan, Nazim of UC-2, Qasimabad, Dr Najeeb, Nazim of UC-13, Latifabad, Dr Saifur Rehman and Ghaffar Malik also spoke at the seminar.
