LAHORE, July 14: The Punjab government has decided to constitute reconciliatory committees at the union council level to ensure provision of swift justice, legal aid and medical treatment to victims (women and children).

The reconciliatory committees will have women councillors, local dignitaries and government officials on them besides representatives of police, auqaf, education, social welfare and law departments. The decision was taken at a meeting of the Provincial Monitoring Committee meeting held here on Sunday.

The committee has been set up by the provincial government with a view to put an end to all types of violence against women and children.

The committee is also supposed to recommend to the provincial government to formulate new laws necessary for ending violence against women and children as well as ensuring implementation of the existing laws.

The district police officers (DPOs) have been instructed by the committee to send reports of violence against women and children to the AIG (operations) on a monthly basis.
