DADU, July 14: Activists of Awami Tehrik (AT) and growers of Dadu staged a demonstration in front of the Khairpur Nathan Shah Press Club on Sunday against water shortage.
They were led by the AT Dadu leader, Lal Shah, President of the Abadgar Association, Ghani Qureshi and President of the SPSF K.N.Shah, Aijaz Chandio.
The protesters said that an acute shortage of water prevailed in 20 waterways originating from Rice Canal and Dadu Canal.
Speaking on the occasion, Lal Shah accused the irrigation officials of selling irrigation water to influential landlords.
The artificial shortage, he said, had dried up 20 waterways, including Kudan Wah, Khuda Wah, Pajaro Minor, Kalaro Minor and Sudh Minor.
Ghani Qureshi pointed out that there was no water, even potable, available in the waterways.
The protesters also observed a token hunger strike.
POLICE:A large number of activists, belonging to the Jeay Sindh Qaumi Mahaz (JSQM), the Sindh Taraqqi Passand Party (STPP) and several NGOs, staged a rally here on Sunday in protest against police reluctance to arrest a murder suspect.
Addressing the rally, Lal Bakhsh Bahooto, a councillor, accused the in-charge of the investigation team, Asghar Birahmani (ASI), of accepting bribe for not arresting Haji Hassain Joyo who, along with another person, Asghar Joyo, had been named in a double murder case.
Both the accused had allegedly barged into the house of one, Din Mohammad Joyo 10 days back and killed him along with his son, Talib Joyo.
