PESHAWAR, July 14: The Pakistan People’s Party and Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam have rejected the proposed constitutional amendment package, graduation condition and Madaris Ordinance and termed them a western conspiracy against the religious institutions.

According to the PPP sources, a meeting was held at Dar-ul-Aloom Sarhad on Saturday evening at which both the parties discussed the proposed amendments and other issues in detail. Both the parties termed the constitutional package, graduation condition and Madaris Ordinance a conspiracy to propagate western culture.

Leaders of both the parties demanded of the government to hand over power to an interim government composed of all parties, which should hold the upcoming elections.

Maulana Gul Naseeb Khan, Abdul Jalil Jan, Sahibzada Khalid Ahmad Banori and Shams-ur-Rehman Shamsi represented the JUI, while the PPP team consisted of Abdul Akbar Khan, Syed Qamar Abbas, Ayub Shah, Karamat Khan, Yawar Naseer and Khizar Hayat Khan.

It was the first formal meeting between the two parties which decided to hold such meetings in future.

The members of both the parties strongly criticized the government for succumbing to the American pressure and demanded restoration of 1973 Constitution.
