QUETTA, July 11: The lawyers in Balochistan will boycott the courts proceeding on July 15 to register their protest against the proposed constitutional amendments package.

The decision in this regard was taken at a meeting of Balochistan Bar Council, Balochistan High Court Bar Association (BHCBA) and district bar associations here on Thursday. BHCBA President Amanullah Kanrani presided over the meeting.

The meeting decided that besides boycott of the proceedings, the lawyers would hold gatherings in court premises to express their dismay over the proposed amendments.

It observed that the present government or any individual had no right to make any amendment to the Constitution and it was the privilege of the elected parliament. The participants said a government official had no right to amend the Constitution passed by an elected parliament without any opposition.

The lawyers through a resolution adopted in the meeting demanded that instead of amending the Constitution the government should hold free and fair elections and hand over power to the elected representatives without any further delay.
