MULTAN, July 10: One of the accused in the sodomy case that led to gang-rape of victim’s sister in Meerwala on June 22 was arrested on Wednesday.
Jameel was arrested from nearby Rampur village on a tip-off. He along with Pannu and Manzoor are accused of sodomizing 12-year-old Shakoor Tattla.
A fair investigation of the sodomy case will only determine the actual circumstances which led to the gang-rape. The Mastois of Meerwala had alleged that Shakoor had illicit relations with the 18-year-old daughter of Imam Bakhsh Mastoi.
Later, the Mastois called a gathering of their own tribesmen which later was labelled as panchayat. Maulvi Abdul Razzaq and two other pleaded the case of Shakoor and his family but the Mastoi panchayat remained unconvinced and allegedly ordered gang-rape of Shakoor’s sister.
Imam Bakhsh Mastoi’s sons Abdul Khaliq and Allah Ditta led the criminal assault. Juror Ghulam Farid and perpetrator Fayyaz Husain also committed the crime.
The Tattla family claim that the Mastois staged the drama of the so called panchayat to pressurize them not to pursue the sodomy case.
Meanwhile, Ramzan Pachar, the third juror, could not be brought to Jatoi from Gaddani, Balochistan, on Wednesday owing to reasons known to police.
When contacted, Jatoi police station SHO Abdul Latif Chandia said Pachar was in safe hands and would arrive at the police station anytime till Thursday morning.
