KARACHI, July 9: Bandits looted Rs4.6 million from a house in Gulshan-i- Maymar on Tuesday morning.

Four bandits barged into Abdur Rahman’s house in Gulshan-i-Maymar off Super Highway early in the morning. They held the family hostage at gunpoint and got away with Rs1.8 million, US dollars equivalent to Rs1.5 million and jewellery worth Rs1.3 million.

Four more robberies were committed at other places in the city.

Five robbers entered Mohammed Ishaque’s house in Clifton, held the occupants of the house hostage at gunpoint, and escaped with local currency, US dollars, jewellery and other valuables.

Four bandits forced their entry into Khwaja Fareeduddin’s house in Ferozabad, held the family hostage at gunpoint, and looted cash, jewellery and other valuables.

Two men intercepted Nasir Zafar in Gulbahar at gunpoint and robbed him of cash and belongings.

Two bandits intercepted Naeem near DJ Science College and robbed him of Rs1.8 million. The bandits were intercepted by police in Arambagh area and one of them was arrested. His accomplice escaped. Police recovered Rs1.6 million. The rest of the looted amount was missing.

SHOOTOUT: A suspected criminal was shot dead and a policeman was injured in an encounter in Gulistan-i-Jauhar on Tuesday.

Police said two policemen, patrolling in Pehelwan goth, noticed some suspicious people standing along the road. As the policemen tried to approach them, the suspected criminals opened fire on them. The policemen returned the fire seriously injuring one of the suspects. His other accomplices escaped. A policeman was also injured in the exchange of fire.

The injured were rushed to a hospital where doctors pronounced the suspected criminal dead on arrival. He was later identified as Shoaib Nazeer, aged 20. The injured policeman, Sattar Ali, was stated to be out of danger. He suffered a bullet injury to his hip.

Police recovered a TT pistol from the possession of the suspected criminal and identified one his absconding accomplices as Iftikhar alias Iftikhari.

ARMS RECOVERED: A large quantity of arms was recovered in Federal B-Area on Tuesday.

Police said four unknown persons dumped four bags in a garbage dump in Block-15, at the backside of the UBL Sports Complex. On information, police reached the spot and opened the bags which contained four Kalashnikov rifles, 30 rockets, one rocket launcher and 31 rocket fuses.

carjacking: Eighteen vehicles — seven cars and 11 motorcycles — were either hijacked or stolen in the city on Tuesday, police said.

Five cars were hijacked. Two others were stolen.

Seven motorcycles were hijacked. Four others were stolen.

Police also claimed on Tuesday to have recovered three stolen cars (U8969, PH-4393, W-0805) and seven motorcycles (DUA-0058, RNH-2982, KCD-9666, KCV-1945, KCV-3571, KCD-2758 and HDJ-9740).
