MOSCOW, April 24 President Dmitry Medvedev dismissed the head of Russia`s military intelligence agency on Friday, the Kremlin announced, after he was reported to have opposed sweeping reforms.

Medvedev signed a decree “to remove Army General Valentin Vladimirovich Korabelnikov from the position of chief of the Main Intelligence Directorate (GRU) ... and to dismiss him from military service,” said a Kremlin statement.

According to Russian media reports, Korabelnikov had been an opponent of sweeping reforms that the Kremlin has been seeking to carry out in the country`s armed forces.—AFP
