KHANEWAL, April 22 The district administration has recommended action against a former revenue district officer (DO) for illegally allotting public 1,440 kanals to 16 people, including Khanewal District Nazim Sardar Ahmad Yar Hiraj, Opposition Leader in the Punjab Assembly Muhammad Yar Hiraj and Haq Nawaz Hiraj.
An inquiry report available with the correspondent revealed DO (revenue) Nasir Khan illegally allotted 93 kanals and seven marlas to the district nazim, 97 kanals and 15 marlas to the opposition leader in the PA, 100 kanals to Haq Nawaz Hiraj, 85 kanals and one marlas to Sultan Akbar, 75 kanals to Mulazim Hussain, 99 kanals to Liaqat Ali, 94 kanals to Rana Muhammad Afzal, 72 kanals to Talib Hussain, 100 kanals to Muhammad Saddique, 99 kanals to Khan Muzaffar Khan, 74 kanals to Muhammad Nawaz, 100 kanals to Muhammad Ashiq, 100 kanals to Muhammad Shahzad Faisal, 50 kanals and 16 marls to Muhammad Yousuf and 100 kanals to Muhammad Amin.
The inquiry report, which was compiled by the district administration, reads “In this case, Mr Nasir Khan acted maliciously by allotting precious public land worth Rs112 million under Lambardari grants in violation of the prescribed rules.
“In certain cases, Khasra numbers of the land were even altered.”
Khanewal District Coordination Officer Qazi Muhammad Ashfaq has sent the report to the Board of Revenue (BoR) for action against Nasir Khan.
Even though the department has cancelled the allotments, certain parties have preferred litigation to get the land.
The report says the illegal allotments were made between Feb to April, 2008. The DO (revenue) cancelled all these allotments on May 14, 2008. Nasir Khan, however, reviewed his own decision and again restored the allotments on May 17, 2008. “In these circumstances, it is a fit case that besides action under pension rules, simultaneous action should also be taken under Anti-Corruption Laws against Nasir Khan,” the report reads.
Revenue Executive District Officer Abdul Rashid Razi told Dawn he had cancelled the allotments made by Nasir Khan.
“Yes I have cancelled these illegal allotments as soon as I came to know about the land scam,” he said.
He said in this case the government may take a departmental action under pension rules and through registration of a case in the Anti-Corruption Establishment (ACE). He said there were many illegal allotments of state land by the former DO to various people. He said the district nazim had voluntarily surrendered the land to the revenue department when he came to know about the situation.
