PESHAWAR, July 2: Jamaat-i-Islami (JI), Khyber Agency, has asked the government to introduce reforms in the Federally Administered Tribal Areas (Fata) and hold local bodies elections in all agencies.
In a joint statement issued here on Monday the Jamaat-i-Islami Khyber Agency chief, Abdur Rauf Shinwari, and general secretary, Sudhair Ahmad Afridi, expressed concern over the reports that the government had postponed the proposed local bodies elections in Fata.
They said that the governor NWFP had promised to hold elections in the area, and would restore basic human rights of the people of Fata.
They said that some people with vested interests were hatching conspiracies to let the reforms process fail.
The Jamaat-i-Islami leaders asked the governor to fulfil his promise.
The Jamaat-i-Islami leaders also denounced unscheduled and frequent loadshedding and water shortage in some parts of the Khyber Agency. They said that concerned authorities had failed to provide basic facilities to the inhabitants and appealed to the governor to resolve the drinking water issue on priority basis.
