KARACHI, June 29: The Sindh home department has referred a letter from the inspector-general of police to the registrar of the High Court of Sindh about holding a judicial inquiry into the death of Omar Asghar Khan.

In a letter from the home department to the SHC registrar , it has been said that the IG, vide a letter of June 27, has approached the Home Department for holding a judicial inquiry into the cause of death of Omar Asghar Khan as the circulation of various theories is creating confusion among the public.

It is further stated in the letter that in view of the situation , it has been considered appropriate to hold a judicial inquiry through a senior district & sessions judge, under the following terms of reference:

i) To probe and ascertain causes and circumstances leading to the death of Omar Asghar Khan, whether it was a case of a premeditated murder or suicide.

ii) To ascertain and identify the involvement of personnel in the alleged death in mysterious circumstances.

iii) Any other vital aspect related to this tragic incident which may help in establishing the truth and proceed according to the law.

The note left by the late Omer Asghar Khan before his death was in his own handwriting, the Home Department has said quoting handwriting experts.

The department had sent the note for examination by handwriting experts, and their report was positive, according to sources in the department.

The police action under section 174 is in progress which includes the report of post mortem, chemical examination and examination by handwriting experts.—APP
