ISLAMABAD, June 28: The information technology and telecom division will launch an intensive training programme for the civil services probationers to develop skills for the operation of the e-government.
According to an official announcement, a Rs37 project has already been approved by the information technology and telecom division for imparting training to the probationers.
The project will be sponsored by the establishment division and executed through the E-Government Project Directorate, IT Commission Secretariat.
Under the scheme, course material will be developed while information technology laboratories be established at the Civil Services Academy in Lahore and eleven other specialized training institutions in the country.
The project also envisages provision of faculties for imparting hands-on-training to the probationary officers during their stay in these academies.
The announcement said the officers during their 15 to 18 months stay at the civil service academy and the professional groups academies would be imparted training before they were posted out as civil servants.
The officers will be given hands-on training on personal computers so that they can use laptops, desktops and multi-media applications for making presentations, project management software and methodologies and different software applications already developed by different departments.
The statement said: “No government can envisage good governance without indulging in development of its single most and largest asset which are its employees. Therefore, to make e- government successful, it was imperative that the employees are trained extensively and intensively in how the government operates.”
Consequently the best starting point of developing human resources is at the time of induction into the government services.
The project will help improve the internal efficiency of government operations in different divisions and departments to improve the quality of services to the citizens.
In addition to the Civil Services Academy, Lahore, the IT skilled enabled project will also be launched at the National Police Academy, Islamabad; Directorate General of Training and Research (Customs and Sales Tax) in Islamabad and Karachi; Directorate General of Training (Income Tax), Lahore; Foreign Services Training Academy, Islamabad; Pakistan Railway Training Institute, Lahore; Postal Staff College, Islamabad; Secretariat Training Institute, Islamabad; Directorate General of Training of Audit and Accounts, Lahore; Information Services Academy, Islamabad; Foreign Trade Training Institute, Islamabad, and Civil Services Academy, DMG Campus, Lahore.
