ISLAMABAD The outgoing Chief Justice of Pakistan Abdul Hameed Dogar may be offered the post of Pakistan`s ambassador to Saudi Arabia, it has been learnt.

According to a report in a local newspaper, the post is currently vacant as the previous ambassador Admiral (retd.) Shahid Karimullah has completed his tenure and has returned home.

Several high-ranking Foreign Service officials have voiced their displeasure at the possible appointment of yet another non-diplomatic official to Riyadh as it is one of the most important foreign offices.

Sources also add that Additional Foreign Secretary for Middle East Umer Khan Alisherzai had earlier been recommended as Pakistan`s representative in the Saudi kingdom where he had earlier worked but is no more a contender for the position.
