HYDERABAD, June 26: The daily wage employees of the Sehwan Development Authority under the banner of daily wages staff action committee staged a token hunger strike outside the Hyderabad Press Club on Wednesday in protest against the non-regularization of their services although they had been working with the Sehwan Development Authority for the last seven years on budgetary posts.
Talking to newsmen, the leaders of the action committee, M. Shabbir Ahmed, Syed Aftab Bukhari and others said that the services of only five per cent staff had been regularized by the Sehwan Development Authority, while 95 per cent of the staff including graduates, post-graduates and position holders were employed on daily-wage basis.
They pointed out that the members of the regular staff were holding two to three posts each but the Sehwan Development Authority was reluctant to regularize the services of the daily-wage earners.
They appealed for justice.
PPP-SB: Activists of the PPP, the SPSF, and the Peoples Youth (SB) observed token hunger strike outside the Hyderabad press club on Wednesday.
They were protesting against the inordinate delay in the arrest of the killers of Mir Murtaza Bhutto and his companions and the arrest of Ali Ahmed Paleptoto, former president of the SPSF-SB.
They raised slogans against Asif Ali Zardari and said that even after six years the proceedings in the courts were going on at a snail’s pace and the killers were still at large.
They also condemned the arrest of Ali Ahmed Phulpoto.
MEMORANDUM: The leaders of the PPP-SB, Hyderabad city, Mehboob Siyal, Advocate Irfan Kalhoro, Zahid Jokhio, and others have submitted a memorandum to the district coordination officer, Mir Hussain Ali, underlining the problems of the growers of the district.
They said that due to acute shortage of water over the years the growers had suffered irreparable losses and the government had announced some relief for the growers.
They said that the relief measures should be implemented in letter and spirit.
They demanded that the power consumers should be protected against the excesses of Wapda.
FREE MEDICAL CAMP: The Isra Islamic Foundation (IIF) organized a free medical camp at the Isra University Welfare Hospital here the other day.
Specialist doctors and professors of the university hospital examined patients and provided free medicines.
About 2,000 patients were examined and 104 patients were admitted for surgery. X-rays, ultrasound and laboratory tests were also done without any charges.
Earlier, Isra University Hospital director Dr Abdul Ghani Kazi inaugurated the camp and visited various parts of the camp. This was the 10th free medical camp organized by the IIF.
