Rs131 million utilized for development

BAHAWALPUR, June 25: The government has so far utilized a sum of Rs131 million on various development projects in the district.

This was stated by District Coordination Officer Imran Ahmad while talking to Dawn on Tuesday.

He said a sum of Rs32.924 million had been spent on education, Rs5.789 million on rural water supply scheme and Rs1.892 million on Cholistan’s schemes.

A sum of Rs166.995 million was released under the Khushal Pakistan Programme, he added.

RECOMMENDATIONS: The recommendations by task force on improvements to higher education in Pakistan will be harmful for students.

This was claimed by local Islamia University’s Academic Staff Association President Prof Dr Muhammad Afzal at a press release issued here on Tuesday.

He said these recommendations were against the interest of teachers and students and would convert educational institutes into trade centres.

In the new set-up, he said the nomination of the governing bodies’ members was negation of democratic norms. The poor students would be deprived of education, he said.
