LAHORE, June 19: The sectoral committee on clothing will meet in Karachi in the next three or four days for finalizing its proposals for inclusion in the trade policy for the fiscal 2002-03 expected to be announced on June 30.

The committee was constituted by the government to prepare short-term recommendations for the trade policy and long-term proposals for implementing the strategic interventions as recommended in the Textile Vision, 2005.

Committee’s chairman Abdul Aziz Memon told Dawn here on Wednesday after a meeting with members of the committee from Lahore that the consolidated recommendations of the committee would be submitted to the federal textile board.

The meeting was held at the office of the Pakistan Hosiery Manufacturers Association (PHMA) office and was attended by its chairman Shahzad Azam Khan, who was inducted on the federal textile board early this week, and former LCCI president Pervez Hanif besides others.

So far, the committee has been of the strong view that the government must reduce its interference in business to boost exports.

The committee also feels the need for exploring new nonquota markets for the clothing industry.
