Law to check quackery soon

PESHAWAR, June 19: The government would soon promulgate an ordinance to take action against the mushrooming quackery in the province, said the NWFP Health Minister Dr Mehir Taj Roghani.

She was speaking at a seminar which was held in connection with Hepatitis B vaccination campaign under the aegis of Al- Khidmat Welfare Trust on Wednesday.

She said a notification would also be issued very soon to punish those involved in the re-use of disposable syringes, drips, and blood bags.

She expressed concern over the fast spread of Hepatitis B & C in the country and said that the practices causing these deadly ailments could take a heavy toll on the people if practical steps weren’t taken for its prevention.

These epidemics have registered a sharp increase since the medical community have started using disposable syringes, she said.

There are very few people who have a real understanding of the problem and that something can be done about it as well.

People are generally ignorant of the effects of dreaded ailment. It is the responsibility of the welfare organizations and the government to raise awareness among the masses. Unfortunately, this is not being done.

The advisor to the governor, NWFP, Dr Robina Gillani said the government was ready to start health care projects in collaboration with the welfare organizations under the public private partnership scheme.

President Al-Khidmat Welfare Trust, Dr Amjad Chughtai in his speech informed that the trust was launching a 3-day vaccination campaign against the fatal disease - Hepatitis B from June 21.

He said WHO’s recommended vaccines would be provided to the people on subsidised rates.
