SUKKUR, June 18: The Ghotki police in a crackdown on Chachar tribe arrested more than 25 persons and took away three motorcycles, four tractor-trolleys, three cycles and other valuables from three villages of the tribe, which caused panic in the area.

The crackdown was launched to arrest Qadirpur Union Council Nazim Imam Buksh, his brother Ali Nawaz, Karam and Hajan who were nominated in a case on the charge of killing Khadim Hussain Kori, injuring Sawan and gang raping a woman of Kori tribe, Safia, on June 6.

The family members of the victims registered an FIR against the Nazim and nine others.

The families of the victims staged a protest demonstration against the police who, according to them, were providing shelter to the actual culprits.

The villagers told newsmen that the Kori tribe had a dispute with Imam Buksh Chachar, the Qadirpur UC Nazim, over a case of Karo kari.

When contacted, Ghotki DPO Shamsuddin Korai denied the large-scale arrests and said the police raided the villages to arrest the nominated persons.
