Bandits on the loose

SHEIKHUPURA, Oct 31: Highwaymen deprived dozens of people of cash and valuables on the Hafizabad Road near Jandiala Sher Khan on Wednesday.

The bandits reportedly continued looting passers-by for two hours by erecting barricades. They collected cash and valuables and fled firing in the air.

Victims identified as Iftikhar Bhatti, Nasir, Ghaffar and Ali Muhammad told newsmen that the law and order situation was growing worse in the locality. Travelling on the Hafizabad Road had become a permanent hazard as police patronized the culprits, they alleged.

They urged high-ups to take measures so as to ensure secure travelling on the road.

Meanwhile, dacoits looted cash and gold ornaments worth Rs200,000 and drove away with a motorcycle from the house of PML (Pagara group) district chief organizer.

Chaudhry Badaruzzaman Virk said the dacoits entered the house after scaling the boundary wall, held up the inmates and collected cash and gold ornaments. They also drove away with a two-wheeler, he said.

ARRESTED: Bhekhi police on Wednesday claimed to have arrested two culprits involved in dacoity cases.

Police raided Khurianwala and Bahuman areas and arrested Allah Ditta and Tanvir with a huge quantity of illicit weapons and contraband.

A police spokesman claimed the culprits were wanted by the district police for their involvement in heinous crimes.

DEATH SENTENCE: Additional district and sessions judge Syed Shahbaz Gardezi awarded death sentence to two accused in a murder case here on Wednesday.

The court awarded sentence and a fine of Rs20,000 each to Ashraf and Akhtar. Co-accused Rashida and Seema were awarded 10-year rigorous imprisonment each.

The convicts had murdered one Sakina sometime back over a family feud.
