ISLAMABAD, Oct 31: Greek Foreign Minister George A. Papandreou will arrive here on Thursday on a two-day visit to discuss current situation and developments in the region after Sept 11 attacks and bilateral issues, Greek Ambassador Dimitri Loundras said at a press conference.

The visit of the minister led delegation is in line with the European Union’s recent decision to step up political dialogue with Pakistan, he said.

He said Greece wanted to show its consideration to Pakistan and the position it took after the terror attacks on the United States.

“Greece considers the visit as an opportunity for further enhancement of the friendly relations between our two countries, and hopes it will give boost to bilateral relations with Pakistan,” Mr Loundras said.

Agreements on political, economic and cultural cooperation are expected to be signed during the visit.

“Greece has keen interest in the region, since its cultural presence goes a long way back,” said the ambassador.

Replying to a question, he said, during such a military campaign “collateral damage does happen sometimes,” but called to avoid civilian casualties as much as possible.

He supported the proposal of a broad-based government in Afghanistan “which is accepted by all tribal population of the country.”—APP
