LHC upholds two death sentences

GUJRANWALA, June 14: The Lahore High Court on Friday upheld Gujranwala anti-terrorism court’s verdict of awarding death sentence to two accused out of 15.

Dawn learnt on Friday the court converted the deaths of eight accused into life term and acquitted five on an appeal.

The prosecution said Anti-Terrorism Court No 2 convicted the 15 accused of killing nine people and fined Rs100,000 each on Sept 24, 1998 while accused Munir Husain was acquitted.

The court declared three accused Munawar Husain, Muhammad Nasir and Muh-ammad Akram absconders. Two of the accused were already killed.
