SUKKUR, June 14: About 500 residents, including the representatives of some political, social and religious organizations, observed a token hunger strike in Jacobabad for the second consecutive day on Friday against the failure of the government agencies to solve civic problems of the city.

The hunger strike call was given by the Jacobabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry. The activists of the Hindu Panchaayat, different labour unions, PPP, PML, JUI and other political parties participated in the hunger strike.

A shutter down strike was also observed for a couple of hours in the Sarafa Bazaar.

Taking to newsmen, the protesters said Wapda was resorting to lengthy loadshedding and also sending inflated bills to power consumers. They were also annoyed with the installation of crystal electric meters. They claimed these meters were fast and showing 40 per cent more units than the actual consumption.

Deploring law and order situation, the protesters said vehicle robbery/theft, murder and kidnapping were rampant in the city but the police had failed to control crime.
