ISLAMABAD, June 14: Over 5,000 unemployed youth, in this sweltering heat with mercury touching 40 degree centigrade on Friday, took a test conducted by the Islamabad Electric Supply Company (Iesco), for 100 vacancies of assistant linemen and 70 of meter readers. These vacancies are likely to occur in near future.

The Iesco, anticipating a requirement of 170 assistant linemen and meter readers in the coming months, invited applications and over 5,000 candidates applied for these jobs, the director administration, Col Abdul Qayyum, told Dawn.

Col Qayyum who was supervising the test with the help of a number of army officers, Jawans and Iesco staff said these candidates would be placed on a waiting list and called later on when the vacancies would occur.

Iesco made the test arrangements at an area of the green belt lying between sectors G-6 and G-7 by erecting Shamiyana (tents).
