HYDERABAD, June 14: The Edhi Centre’s ambulance service has been disrupted as the power supply to its central office was disconnected by Hesco on Friday.

The entire wireless network of the Edhi Centre has been disrupted because of Hesco cutting off the power supply.

A spokesman of the Edhi Centre told Dawn that correspondence between the Edhi Centre and Hesco authorities had been going on for the last five years regarding wrong billing. Hesco had held out promises for taking action on the complaints but nothing was done.

He said that while the matter had yet to be decided, the Hesco people all of a sudden disconnected the power supply and took away the metre as a result of which the work of the centre had been badly affected.

He said that this in spite of the fact that the Edhi Centre had already paid Rs50,000 to Hesco.

He said that it had almost become impossible for the Edhi Centre to resume social welfare work in the absence of the power supply.

He said that he had also tried to contact Hesco officials but nobody was available at the office.

HESCO: A spokesman for Hesco has claimed that during the current fiscal year, the company had energised 276 villages of the interior Sindh.

Giving break-up, he said seven villages in Hyderabad, 18 in Mirpurkhas, one in Umerkot, four in Thatta, 12 in Nawabshah, 25 in Naushahro Feroze, 32 in Sanghar, 10 in Sukkur, 10 in Ghotki, 44 in Khairpur, 31 in Larkana, 29 in Jacobabad, 41 in Shikarpur and 12 villages in Dadu district had been electrified.
