SAHIWAL, June 13: A convict who reportedly provided a pistol to the alleged killer of a blasphemy convict in Kot Lakhpat Jail was shifted back to Lahore under tight security early on Thursday morning.

Nadeem Zulfi was transferred to the Sahiwal Central Jail on June 9 on the orders of Punjab home secretary and sent back on the orders of the same officer.

On Wednesday, a special police team from Lahore visited the jail and interrogated him. Nadeem denied that he had provided the pistol to Tariq but, later on assurance by the police high-ups, he agreed to speak the truth.

Nadeem told them that the Kot Lakhpat Jail administration provided the opportunity to kill blasphemer Muhammad Yousaf.

According to him, the foreign-made pistol was ‘smuggled’ into the jail about six months ago. He claimed that around Rs200,000 were spent on greasing the palms of jail officers to carry out the crime.

He said on June 8 when his transfer orders were issued by the home secretary, he handed over the weapon to Muhammad Tariq who killed Yousaf on June 11.
