GUJRANWALA, June 13: An Elite Force constable gunned down four people, including his father and grandfather, over marriage issue in two localities of the city on Thursday.
At first Javed Ahmad went to Irfat Colony Bazaar No 1 and shot dead his father Muhammad Iqbal and grandfather Sadiq Khan. Later, he appeared at Sethi Plaza in Peoples Colony where he gunned down jewellery distributor Muhammad Yousaf alias Kuku Butt and his partner Nasir Mahmood.
It is learnt that Javed wanted to marry Nusrat who was working as sales girl in the jewellery shop of deceased Yousaf, but his father and grandfather had rejected the proposal. The accused also suspected that Yousaf had relations with the girl. The bodies were sent to the city mortuary for autopsy.
Police have arrested the accused and recovered the official rifle from his possession.
CRACKDOWN: Sabzi Mandi police continued crackdown on residents involved in ransacking of a paper and board manufacturing factory in Khiali on the second day on Thursday.
Police arrested around a dozen more people after raiding their houses and shops and got their physical remand from a local court.
Police had registered a case under terrorism act against 136 people, including Nazim, Naib Nazim and women, while arrested 20 people on Wednesday. Condemning the attack, factory owner and former councillor Muhammad Rafiq told newsmen that his political and business rivals had been responsible for the incident. He said he had established the factory in 1965 when the area was not populated. However, he adopted several measures to control the pollution and smoke during the period. A delegation of women, he said, had met him a few days ago and he assured them that he would redress their grievances within two days.
STRIKE: Commission agents of the local Grain Market went on shutter-down strike when one of their colleagues was shot dead by three dacoits on resistance here on Thursday.
Khalid Aziz was present in his shop when outlaws riding on a motorcycle came there. Armed dacoits snatched Rs20,000 in cash from him and fired at him for holding them out. He received injuries and was rushed to the local DHQ Hospital where he died.
Model Town police have registered a case and are investigating.
CONDEMNED: The district bar association condemned the murderous attack on bar member Rana Ashiq Ali advocate by his rivals at Maraliawala village.
At a meeting held here on Thursday under the chairmanship of bar president Mian Maqsood Ahmad, participants adopted a resolution in which they demanded that the accused involved in the attack should be arrested immediately.
SHOT DEAD: A bus crew on Thursday was shot dead by a passenger for not stopping the vehicle at the stop near Kamoke.
The accused asked Naveed to stop the bus at Ghanian stop, but he refused to do so. Falling into a rage, the accused opened fire on him in the moving bus. He died on the spot.
Police have instituted a case and are investigating.
