Duststorm, rain bring relief

LAHORE, June 11: Lahorites heaved a sigh of relief late on Tuesday afternoon as a duststorm and light rain broke the three-day spell of hot and humid weather.

As the windstorm, having a maximum speed of 66 kilometres per hour, blew away the impact of the heat, the light rain not only settled the dust but also lowered the temperature quite a bit.

The wind was calm earlier in the day with a maximum temperature of 40.7 degrees C. High humidity — 54 per cent in the morning and 31 per cent in the evening — created typical monsoon weather conditions.

The Met office recorded 3mm of rain at the airport and 5mm at its Jail Road observatory.

It reported light rain in Saidu Sharif, Muzaffarabad, Kakul, Murree, Rawalpindi and Islamabad.

The Met office has forecast duststorm with chances of rain in several cities of the Punjab, including Lahore, the NWFP and the Northern Areas during the next 24 hours.
