PESHAWAR, June 11: After evacuating about 10,000 Afghan refugee families from the Nasir Bagh camp, the provincial government is set to launch house demolition operation at old Jalozai camp located in the south of Peshawar
A senior official of the Commissionerate of Afghan Refugee (CAR) told Dawn here on Tuesday that the evacuated houses were being demolished in the camp in order to prevent the re- settlement of displaced people who sneak back into Pakistan.
He said the commissionerate staff backed by police force would start demolition drive in Jalozai camp on Wednesday. The inmates of the camp had returned to their homeland under the voluntary repatriation programme.
The provincial government is also planning to vacate some portions of Katcha Garhi camp, one of the oldest refugee settlements in Pakistan to make room for the construction of the proposed ring road.
