LAHORE, June 11: Water situation of the country remained better on Tuesday with combined rivers’ flow touching a 390,600 cusecs mark, 130,600 cusecs more than the upper consumption limit of the four provinces.

River Indus at Tarbela touched 211,600 cusecs, Jehlum at Mangla 45,700, Chenab at Marala 72,200 and Kabul at Nowshera 61,100 cusecs.

Around 289,500 cusecs were released for irrigation and rest 10,1100 cusecs were stored.

According to dam level position, the Tarbela went up by 2.84 feet touching 1415.22 feet. Its dead level is 1369.00 and maximum 1550.00 feet. The Mangla lake went up by 1.10 feet and stood at 1169.20 feet, whereas its dead level is 1040.00 and optimum limit of 1202.00 feet.

According to its historical filling pattern of Mangla, the chances of filling brightens up if the lake is filled up to 80 per cent — which is 1180.00 feet — of its storage capacity by June 20.

The Punjab irrigation authorities expressed their optimism about filling of the dam this year after a hiatus of four years.

According to barrages’ report, Jinnah had an inflow of 200,900 and outflow of 192,900 cusecs, Chashma 218,700 and 205,000, Taunsa 187,100 and 159,500, Guddu 134,500 and 116,400, Sukkur 66,700 and 34,400 and Kotri 16,300 cusecs with no outflow.

Reaching of 134,500 cusecs at Guddu means that Sindh, which has total withdrawal capacity of 125,000 cusecs could meet its total requirements from the system.

The Punjab was able to meet all its requirements with both link canals — Chashma-Jehlum and Tuansa-Panjnad — transferring 31,554 cusecs to it from the Indus arm.
