NAWABSHAH, June 11: Nearly 15,000 acres of the Dhoro Naro minor land is getting destroyed due to the carelessness of officials of the Nusrat irrigation division, Nawabshah.

The Taluka Nazim, Nawabshah, Ali Akbar Jamali, said this while talking to newsmen at a press conference at the press club on Tuesday.

He said that the growers had lots of complaints about the shortage of water in Nusrat Canal.

He said that there was water at the Dad and Nusrat division but the Executive Engineer, Nusrat division, kept claiming that there was shortage of water.

He said that the authorities concerned were not distributing the water properly and the rotation programme was not being implemented as the XEN was involved in illegal distribution.

Talking about the Dhoro Naro minor, he said that Nawabshah-I sub-division was supposed to start on June 8th according to the rotation programme but irrigation officials did not open it till June 9.

He said that the growers approached the XEN, Ameer Bux Khushik, who promised to open the minor but did not. The growers kept waiting for the XEN at the regulator and when he arrived there he seemed to be in a fit.

He further said that the XEN slapped one of the growers as a result of which a fight started between both. The XEN lodged an FIR against the growers.

Mr Jamali said that the XEN was called by the district Nazim where he promised to solve the growers problem but never did.

The Taluka Nazim and at least 50 growers have demanded the governor, Sindh, for transferring the XEN immediately.

Canal gates opened: The growers of the Dhoro Naro minor (canal regulator) forcibly opened the gates of its regulator on Monday to get water, reports APP.

The gates had remained closed for the last two months.

The growers alleged that the gates had been closed two months ago and were not opened even during the schedule announced for rotation.

The engineer of Nusrat Division visited the site where the growers had a heated argument with him.
