KHAIRPUR, Oct 30: Hesco has disconnected electricity connections to the office of Khairpur taluka council, water supply installations and fire brigade station of the city on Monday.
As a result, the water supply remained suspended to the entire city.
The officials of Khairpur taluka council with social workers and citizens staged a demonstration on Tuesday against the engineer and other officials of Hesco Khairpur.
They took out a procession which started from Panj Gula and ended in front of the office of the SDEO Hesco, Khairpur.
The protesters set on fire an effigy of the engineer Hesco, Khairpur, and raised slogans against him.
The engineer Hesco Khairpur told Dawn that there was an outstanding amount of Rs33.1 million against 50 connections of Khairpur municipality.
Later, power supply was restored after the taluka Nazim Hassan Ali Solangi and the Nazims of two UCs of the town assured the engineer Hesco, Khairpur, of payment of the bill in a meeting.
WATER PROTEST: The growers of Sobhodero talukas continued their protest on Tuesday against the acute water shortage in the area, which had adversely damaged the crops standing on thousands of acres.
A large number of growers staged a demonstration on second consecutive day on Tuesday in Hingorja against water shortage in taluka Sobhodero, particularly in Mehrab and Machhar minors.
The protesters raised slogans against the irrigation officials and complained that there had been no water in the minors for past six months.
Meanwhile, crops on thousands acres in Padidan area have started drying due to water shortage in Cheeho Shakh, Dakhi, Sangi, Jalbani, Chanheen, Kot Laloo, Titri and Sher Khan minors.
Similar reports are pouring in from Faiz Ganj taluka also.
TEACHERS’ SHORTAGE:: The residents of village Shahan Shar of taluka Faiz Ganj staged protest demonstration here on Tuesday against shortage of teachers in the primary school of their village.
The protesters said there was only one teacher for 90 students in the school.
BAIL: The Additional Session Judge Khairpur Mr Mohammad Bukhsh Bhangwar granted bail to some 109 activists of Jeay Sindh Qaumi Mahaz, who were arrested during the protest sit- in staged on June 10 near Babarloi against the water shortage in Sindh.
About 239 activists of the JSQM were arrested in the protest.
