1,700 outlaws arrested

PESHAWAR, June 7: The city police arrested 1,700 outlaws, including 200 proclaimed offender, and seized narcotics and weapons during May.

Sources said on Thursday that the Peshawar Capital City Police had arrested 200 POs, involved in murder, attempted murder, burglary and other crimes during raids.

They netted 447 persons for possessing unlicensed arms and seized 78 kalashnikovs, 15 kalakovs, 56 rifles, 656 shotguns, 21 hand-grenades, 17 daggers, 399 pistols and 9,981 cartridges during checking on roads.

The police nabbed 574 narcotics smugglers and seized 305kg of hashish, 12kg of heroin, 2kg of opium, 305kg of local liquor and 179 bottles of foreign wine. They arrested 120 gamblers and seized Rs120,000 stake money.

During the month, 28 persons were held on the charges of possessing fake currency notes of Rs78,000.

The police netted 188 smuggled-goods carrier and impounded foreign items worth Rs700,000, whereas 249 persons were charged with adulteration.

Meanwhile, an Afghan woman was stabbed by her husband in Arbab Road locality. Muradi lodged an FIR with the University Town police station, stating that her husband, Faiz Mohammad, stabbed her when she refused to go with him to his friend’s home. The accused fled after injuring his wife.

The house of an Afghan, Mohammad Hussain, in Hayatabad Phase IV was burgled on Wednesday. Hussain said the burglars decamped with gold jewellry worth Rs50,000 and Rs50,000 cash.
