Civil judges placed in three categories

PESHAWAR, June 7: The Peshawar High Court has placed the civil judges across the province in three classes and fixed pecuniary limits of the jurisdiction exercisable by them.

In this regard, a notification was issued by the registrar of the high court on June 5, stating that the order was issued under section 9 of the West Pakistan Civil Courts Ordinance, 1962, by the chief justice and the judges of the high court.

Through the notification the judges have been divided into three classes — civil judge 1st class, civil judge 2nd class and civil judge 3rd class.

The civil judge 1st class will exercise jurisdiction in original civil suits or proceedings without limit as regards value. The civil judge 2nd class will exercise jurisdiction in original civil suits or proceedings wherein the subject matter in amount or value does not exceed Rs5,00,000.

Similarly, the civil judge 3rd class will exercise jurisdiction in original civil suits or proceedings wherein the subject matter in amount or value does not exceed Rs1,00,000.

Before the issuance of this notification, the civil judges cadre was not bifurcated in different classes and they exercised jurisdiction in civil suits without limit as regards value.
