KARACHI, July 7: An Indian container ship in distress was rescued by Karachi port on Thursday. The ship, MV Orient Prosperity, coming from the Jawahar Lal Nehru Port, was safely brought into the harbour. The vessel was damaged by rough sea and swell and due to heavy flooding from the portside, 10 containers fell overboard. The captain of the ship, Rajnesh Kumar, reported that the vessel was running out of fuel and water and if it was not rescued there would be a complete shutdown of power in a couple of hours.
The KPT chairman called a meeting and decided that the ship should be saved from sinking. Av official was sent to the ship to examine the possibility of bringing it into harbour.
After evaluating the possible hazards the ship was brought into the Karachi port and secured alongside East Wharf. The operation saved the 24 crew members and the cargo onboard.
