KARACHI, May 2: The HSC annual examinations 2002 of the Karachi Board of Intermediate Education Karachi (BIEK) will commence from Friday.
This was stated by chairman of BIEK, Dr Mohammad Sharif Memon, on Thursday. He said all the arrangements had been completed to conduct these examinations.
Dr Memon pointed out that 91,086 candidates would appear in these examinations whose theory papers would continue till the last week of this month.
The papers of pre-medical, commerce (regular) and home economics groups would be conducted during the morning session at 68 centres and those of the pre-engineering at 62 centres.
The first paper in the morning group will be of the candidates of the Home Economics group, from 10 am to one pm, and that of the Geology group from three pm to six pm.
The papers of the candidates of Arts (regular) group and Commerce (private) group would begin from the first week of June after the conclusion of theory papers of the pre-medical, commerce (regular), home economics and pre-engineering exams..
Dr Memon said usual arrangements had been made for invigilation in these examinations. “The whole show is with the teachers who are our eyes and ears”, he remarked.
The BIEK Chairman further observed that there had been a decline in ‘aggression’ on the part of candidates and that the situation on that count had improved a lot.—APP
BODY FORMED: A committee of teachers of commerce subjects has been formed to look into the affairs of commerce colleges and make suggestions for overall improvement, adds our staff reporter.
The committee was formed at a meeting of commerce teachers held at the Government Gulshan-i-Iqbal College the other day. The meeting reviewed the state of affairs of commerce colleges and teaching of commerce subjects.
After a detail discussion the meeting observed that there was a need to improve the standard of the existing BCom and ICom syllabi, while shortage of subject teachers in commerce was also a serious problem, said a press release.
A committee headed by Prof Aslam Khan and with Prof Abdur Rahim, Prof Ali Safeer, Prof Zulfiqar Al, Prof Zeenat Mahmood and others as its members prepared recommendations and proposed the formation of a commerce teachers association.
The general body meeting of commerce teachers would be held at the National College on May 12, added the press release.
